A great training opportunity

Grassroots political leaders from around the Pacific Northwest will come together at Portland State University’s Cramer Hall on Saturday, May 21, 2005 for the first annual Progressive Leadership Summit, sponsored by Democracy for Oregon (DFO). Jim Dean, brother of Gov. Howard Dean and Chair of Democracy for America (DFA), Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), and State Representative Peter Buckley (D-Dist.5) are the scheduled keynote speakers for this event. In addition, educational breakout sessions are planned, designed to give attendees knowledge and techniques for local and national political involvement. Click here to continue reading the story from the front page Session leaders will include Oregon AFL-CIO President Tim Nesbitt, DFA Political Director Chris Warshaw, national radio host Thom Hartmann, Oregon Democratic National Committeeperson Jenny Greenleaf, and many others. Anti-Walmart campaigns will be the topic of at least one session, with the Business Ethics Network talking about their campaign against the corporation. SEIU Executive Director Arthur Towers may also discuss their campaign against Wal-Mart as well. The Progressive Leadership Summit is designed to bring together, educate and strengthen the influence of potential and current progressive political leaders within their local communities. The event is organized in conjunction with co-sponsors the Portland State University (PSU) College Democrats, the PSU Greens, and the PSU Progressive Student Union.
