Wal-Mart sends out e-mail encouraging people in support of the Wal-Mart to submit comments
Submitted by Jenni Simonis on Thu, 09/21/2006 - 12:21am.
I received the following e-mail on August 22nd. I would have had this up sooner, but I just realized that when my computer went down and the hard drive had to be replaced that I forgot to set up this e-mail account in my Outlook. Guess that's what happens when you have too many accounts... I think it's funny that I received one of these, and that they put so much weight on the 470 supporters, and overlook the thousands who wrote in opposition. Well, here is the e-mail in its entirety: Gresham Wal-Mart Supporters: Gresham city staff recently approved plans for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Gresham at 3900 West Powell Boulevard to the delight of more than 470 community members who have expressed support and provided valuable feedback to the store. However, the decision to approve Wal-Mart has been appealed to the city. Wal-Mart is confident the store’s approval will be upheld and looks forward to joining the local business community, investing in local charitable projects and bringing its everyday low prices to Gresham. Your support is important to the store’s approval! It’s important to remember that you’re not alone in your support of Wal-Mart. Please continue to share your support with your friends, neighbors and city officials. Your efforts are critical to the city’s consideration and the store’s approval. Attend a hearing and voice your support! A hearing for an appeal against the Gresham Wal-Mart has been scheduled before a city hearings officer on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m., at City Council Chambers, 1333 NW Eastman Parkway in Gresham. Please plan to attend the hearing and testify in support of the new store. If you’re unable to attend the hearing, you may submit your comments in writing to: Hearings Officer Joe Turner Thank you for your support! »
